Mauro VS — Vendimia Seleccionada — sits above the standard Mauro in the range, distinguished by a stricter parcel selection and a focus on 100% Tempranillo drawn from four specific sites around Tudela de Duero: Traspinedo, El Rosal, Carramontemayor, and La Oliva, the latter a 14-hectare north-facing plot on elevated ground with poor chalky soils that lends particular tension to the blend. Soils across the selection vary from clay-limestone to sandy and calcareous ground, with boulders present in several parcels. Vines average 20–25 years of age and are farmed organically without herbicides, with the estate moving progressively toward biodynamic practices.

Grapes are harvested manually in 15 kg boxes during the second week of September, with a first selection made in the vineyard and a second on the sorting table at the cellar. Fermentation proceeds with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, followed by a maceration of two to three weeks, before the wine is aged for 26 months in extra fine-grain French and American oak. Bodegas Mauro was founded in 1978 by Mariano García, who spent 30 years as head winemaker at Vega Sicilia, with his son Eduardo now leading winemaking; the 2021 vintage — described by the winery as one of the most attractive of the past five years — was awarded 96 points by Robert Parker.
