The IGP Formentera is a small Balearic island denomination with very limited production. Vines grow on limestone and sandy soils under extreme Mediterranean aridity. Local varieties Monastrell and Fogoneu share space with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon; whites are made from Malvasía, Macabeo and Chardonnay. The wines show concentration and indigenous character, with production oriented primarily towards local and seasonal tourist consumption.
