The DO Sierras de Málaga groups the still-wine production of the Málaga interior — especially the Serranía de Ronda — at altitudes of 500 to 1,100 metres. A mountain Mediterranean climate with warm days and cool nights allows structured, complex reds from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo and Petit Verdot, alongside dry whites from Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Ronda is the geographical epicentre and most prestigious subzone, home to boutique producers with an international profile. Schist and limestone soils and high sunshine hours define the wine character.
