Learn more about Patagonia

Argentine Patagonia's wine zone concentrates in the provinces of Neuquén and Río Negro, between latitudes 37° and 40° S. It is Argentina's most southerly and coolest zone: an extreme continental climate — diurnal temperature swings of 20°C, intense Patagonian winds, scarce rainfall — produces wines of fresher character and higher acidity than Mendoza. Pinot Noir, Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are the most successful varieties. The Río Negro Valley and San Patricio del Chañar in Neuquén concentrate the most ambitious producers. The moderate altitude (500–800 m) and extreme latitude define the zone's potential for wines of greater tension and freshness than the classic Andean styles.
