Coteaux Du Layon 4 products.

In the Anjou sector south of the Loire, this appellation harvests botrytis-affected Chenin Blanc encouraged by morning mists from the Layon river and afternoon sunshine on steep south-facing slopes. Soils of blue schist (ardoise) provide excellent drainage and heat retention, concentrating sugars and flavour compounds in the grapes. The stylistic range runs from luscious demi-sec to full moelleux with decades of potential.

Six named communes — Beaulieu-sur-Layon, Faye, Rablay, Rochefort, St-Aubin, St-Lambert — may add their name to the label for wines of superior concentration. Bonnezeaux and Quarts de Chaume sit above the appellation hierarchy as its two recognised premium crus, producing wines of exceptional ageing capacity from within the Layon corridor.
