The estate was founded in 1890 in Thouarcé, between the Coteaux du Layon and the slopes of Anjou. The Gourdon family worked it, and since 1985 it has belonged to the Lamotte family.
Before phylloxera it was planted essentially to chenin. When the vineyard had to be replanted, gamay, grolleau and pineau d'Aunis came in, and those varieties ended up as the basis of its rosés. The blight did not only kill vines: it changed what the house grows and, with it, what it sells.
One hundred and fifteen hectares, all of it within appellation, a large holding for the Loire.
Nine different appellations come out of it: Anjou Blanc, Coteaux du Layon, Bonnezeaux, Crémant de Loire, Rosé de Loire, Rosé d'Anjou, Cabernet d'Anjou, Anjou Rouge and Anjou-Villages.
