Shared between the villages of Westhalten and Soultzmatt, this south-southeast facing Grand Cru is planted on sandstone and limestone soils that give its wines a distinctive mineral dryness alongside their richness. The generous, sunny exposure concentrates both Riesling and Gewurztraminer to high natural alcohol levels, and the wines are characterised by their dry, structured, and concentrated profile — more austere than the luscious clay Grand Crus, with a firm acidity running through the fruit and supporting long ageing.

Rieslings from this site are among Alsace's most age-worthy, developing complexity over ten to twenty years. The Gewurztraminer, though full-bodied as always on this variety, retains a mineral clarity that elevates it above simpler expressions, making this Grand Cru particularly well suited to those who prefer structure and precision over immediate opulence.
