The denomination occupies the north of Tenerife, on the slope descending from Teide towards the Atlantic coast, at altitudes of 350 to 800 metres. The influence of the Atlantic trade winds brings humidity and freshness, moderating temperatures at a subtropical latitude. Soils are volcanic — basalt, ash and lapilli — with low water retention and high permeability.

Listán Negro in reds and Listán Blanco in whites are the principal varieties. The old bushvines of this valley — many ungrafted and of pre-phylloxeric origin — produce wines of moderate colour, pronounced Atlantic acidity, mineral salinity and an unrepeatable aromatic profile. Production is small and artisan, with vineyards fragmented across dry-stone terraces.
