Learn more about Argentina

Argentina is the world's fifth-largest wine producer by volume, with Mendoza as the heart of its export viticulture. The viticultural geography is defined by the Andes: altitude (800 to over 3,000 metres in Cafayate), extreme aridity that requires irrigation from snowmelt channels, and the diurnal temperature range that preserves acidity and aromatic profile. Intense sun and scarce rainfall make the country one of the healthiest environments for viticulturalists in terms of fungal disease pressure.

Malbec is the emblematic variety, established since 19th-century French immigration and adapted to altitude in such a way that it produces wines of a distinct profile from Cahors Malbec: greater colour concentration, riper fruit, softer tannins, and moderate acidity. Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon, Torrontés, and Chardonnay complete the main variety register. The high-altitude zones of Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco in Mendoza, and Cafayate in Salta, represent the country's most ambitious viticulture.
