One of the larger of Alsace's 51 Grand Crus at approximately 28 hectares, this south-facing site above the town of Guebwiller is planted primarily with Gewurztraminer and Riesling on soils of sandstone and limestone. The warm, sheltered aspect and the particular mineral richness of the underlying rock produce wines of exceptional ripeness and aromatic intensity — Gewurztraminer of full-bodied, spicy, and lusciously textured character, and Rieslings of impressive concentration and depth.

The full-bodied style is a direct expression of both the generous southern exposure and the terroir's mineral richness, and the wines benefit from short to medium-term cellaring to integrate their alcohol and develop greater aromatic complexity.
