2012 — An uneven vintage across Spain and France. Rioja and Priorat performed very well, while Ribera del Duero was affected by drought stress. In Bordeaux, harvest rain threatened the crop, but rigorous selection at leading estates salvaged a technically demanding vintage.

Burgundy suffered tiny volumes due to widespread mildew, but quality was high among those that survived. Champagne declared a widespread vintage year, and the best wines from this harvest — Spanish and French alike — show real concentration and character.
