Learn more about Tavel

France's only appellation dedicated exclusively to rosé wine, this ancient producing zone in the southern Rhône has been celebrated since the Middle Ages and was recognised as an AOC in 1936, one of the earliest in France. Based principally on Grenache, with Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Clairette, and Bourboulenc as permitted support varieties, these rosés are deliberately full-bodied, deeply coloured — ranging from pale salmon to coppery orange — and fully dry.

The richness and savoury depth of these wines sets them apart from the lighter Provençal style, and makes them natural companions for grilled meats, seafood, and the full range of Mediterranean cuisine. The best examples reward short to medium-term cellaring, developing nutty and spiced complexity well beyond the typical rosé drinking window.
