A relatively small Grand Cru above the village of Hunawihr, this site is built on a distinctive geological formation of raugrauwacke — a hard, fine-grained combination of limestone and schist — that imparts remarkable mineral precision and finesse to its Riesling. The wines are characterised by their tense, almost austere structure in youth and an extraordinary capacity for long ageing, revealing complex notes of petrol, lime zest, and struck flint with years in the bottle.

The site is celebrated internationally as the source of Trimbach's Clos Sainte-Hune, widely regarded as Alsace's most iconic Riesling — though the wine is not released under the Grand Cru designation. The prestige of the underlying terroir is well established regardless, and other producers working the site consistently confirm its exceptional mineral character.
