Learn more about Aconcagua Valley

The Aconcagua region, north of Santiago, groups zones of very different climatic profiles: the inland Aconcagua valley — hot and dry, historically associated with Cabernet Sauvignon —, the coastal sub-zones of San Antonio and Leyda — strongly influenced by the Humboldt Current and Pacific fogs, with temperatures up to 15°C lower than the interior — and Casablanca — a valley open to the Pacific, with clay soils, Chile's benchmark for fresh-style Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.

The Pacific-facing orientation of the coastal sub-zones has been the main argument for high-end Chilean viticulture over the past twenty years: high-acidity whites with a precise aromatic profile, and moderate-colour, controlled-alcohol reds, in contrast with the more concentrated style of the interior. Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Syrah are the varieties of greatest promise in the coastal zones.
