2001 — An irregular season in Bordeaux was rescued by excellent September conditions, producing a good vintage in which the Right Bank — Pomerol and Saint-Émilion — shines brightest. Burgundy also delivered very good quality with wines that have aged gracefully.
In Spain, 2001 is fondly remembered for the balance between fruit and structure in both Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Gran reservas from this harvest are now in their ideal drinking window — complex, evolved and rewarding for those who have kept them.
