On the gentle slopes of pink granite in the northern Beaujolais, this cru is the one most associated with the feminine, floral side of Gamay. Aromas of raspberry, violet and rose and a silky, giving texture set it apart from the more structured crus of Moulin-à-Vent or Morgon — the granite soils providing mineral definition alongside the fruit without the volcanic weight of the northern zones.

Serious Fleurie is typically fermented with greater extraction than basic Beaujolais and aged in neutral oak or concrete, developing complexity beyond pure fruit. Three to eight years of cellaring from a good vintage adds secondary notes of dried rose, sous-bois and earthy depth without sacrificing the variety's characteristic freshness. Domaine Chignard, Clos de la Roilette and Jean-Marc Burgaud are reliable reference producers for the appellation's authentic character.
