Learn more about Murcia

The Murcia region houses three denominations built around the Monastrell variety. Jumilla (partly shared with Castilla-La Mancha), on limestone-clay soils at 400–900 m altitude, produces high-concentration, high-extraction reds — both dry and fortified — that are the benchmark for Spanish Monastrell. Yecla makes wines of opulent, warm character. Bullas, in the mountainous northwest at higher altitudes, offers comparatively fresher, more aromatic styles. Low rainfall and intense sun on the Murcian plateau give the region's wines power and density.
