2005 — Alongside 2000 and 2010, one of Bordeaux's most celebrated vintages of the 21st century: a perfect balance of concentration and acidity across both banks, with wines built for very long ageing. Burgundy and Sauternes were also outstanding.
In Spain, Rioja reservas and gran reservas from this harvest are generational references that continue to evolve magnificently. Ribera del Duero was equally outstanding. The Northern Rhône — Côte Rôtie and Hermitage in particular — produced legendary wines. Rarely does a single vintage deliver this level of quality so consistently across regions.
