Roussillon sits at the southernmost tip of the Languedoc corridor, bordered by the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean and the Spanish frontier — one of France's hottest and driest viticultural zones. The tramontane and Cers winds moderate temperatures and reduce disease pressure, enabling fully ripe Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre with natural freshness. The northern villages zone — Côtes du Roussillon Villages — produces the most concentrated and structured red expressions.

Roussillon is equally important for its Vins Doux Naturels: Rivesaltes (Grenache Blanc, Gris and Noir, Macabeo in multiple styles), Maury (Grenache-dominant, tawny and vintage styles) and Banyuls (the most prestigious, coastal schist with minimum 75% Grenache, developing rancio complexity with age). These fortified wines are France's answer to Port and tawny styles, offering age-worthy complexity at competitive prices.
