Vincent Paris was born in Cornas and set up his estate in 1997. Most of the vines came from his grandfather — some are around a century old — and others he rents from his uncle, Robert Michel, a benchmark grower in the appellation.
Some seventeen hectares across parcels on the southeast-facing Cornas slope, farmed biodynamically.
His two best-known wines, Granit 30 and Granit 60, look like two rungs of one ladder and are not: each number measures something different.
The 30 is the average gradient of the plot, thirty degrees, which works out to a slope of close to 58%: no machine climbs that, and all the work is done by hand. The fruit comes from the house's youngest vines, averaging about fifteen years.
The 60, by contrast, is not about slope but about age: vines between sixty and a hundred years old.
His La Geynale parcel has been planted since 1910.
