Bodega Chacra

Chacra was founded by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, grandson of the Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta —the man who created Sassicaia in Bolgheri and proved the Tuscan coast could yield great reds. In 2004 he bought two hectares in the Río Negro valley, in Argentine Patagonia: a vineyard planted in 1932 and long abandoned, which had to be brought back entirely.

That is where the naming of the wines comes from, and it is as direct as it gets: each one is called after the year its vineyard was planted. Treinta y Dos for 1932, Cincuenta y Cinco for 1955. There is no invented brand name, there is a date.

The soil does the rest. These are alluvial sands at the confluence of the Limay and Neuquén rivers, and phylloxera does not thrive in sand, so the vines grow on their own roots, ungrafted. The estate is farmed organically and biodynamically.
