Bodegas Mauro

Mariano García founded Bodegas Mauro in Tudela de Duero (Valladolid) in tribute to his father. He was Vega Sicilia's winemaker from 1968 to 1998, and today it is run by his sons: Alberto, in sales and management, and Eduardo, in winemaking.

Tudela de Duero was left outside the Ribera del Duero appellation when it was created, in 1982. That is why Mauro's wines are sold as Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León.

The vines, bush-trained on clay-limestone soils, are farmed organically and without herbicides, with yields of 3,000 to 5,000 kilos per hectare, and the harvest is by hand.

Mauro, the reference wine, is mostly Tempranillo with some Syrah, aged in foudres and barrels. Mauro VS, Vendimia Seleccionada, is a Tempranillo cuvée from the best plots of each vintage. Terreus comes from the Paraje de Cueva Baja, in Tudela de Duero, has been made separately since the 1996 vintage and is not made every year.

The family also has other wineries: Maurodos, in Toro, which makes San Román and was founded in 1997, and Garmón, in Ribera del Duero.
