Bodegas Mauro. Terreus originates from a single parcel of approximately three hectares known as Paraje de Cueva Baja — or El Almendro — at around 800 metres altitude in Tudela de Duero, Valladolid. Clay-calcareous soils, loose and deep with notable sandy components. Tempranillo vines averaging 35 years of age. Organic farming under biodynamic conversion, with no herbicides.

Hand-harvested into small crates and transported by gravity to the cellar. Fermentation in stainless steel vats using only indigenous yeasts, with daily punch-downs. Malolactic fermentation completed in barrel. Aged 20 months in French oak, a combination of new and used. Mariano García has vinified this parcel separately since 1996. Production: 9,060 bottles.

El Mauro Terreus 2019, elaborado por Bodegas Mauro, procede de un único viñedo de unas 3 hectáreas ubicado en Paraje de Cueva Baja, también conocido como El Almendro, en Tudela de Duero (Valladolid). Este lote de Tempranillo, con vides de una edad media de 35 años, se encuentra en el marco de la denominación IGP Castilla y León. La parcela se sitúa a una altitud de unos 800 metros sobre suelos arcillo-calcáreos, sueltos y profundos con componentes arenosos.

El viñedo se cultiva en ecológico, en conversión a la biodinámica y sin herbicidas. La uva se recoge manualmente en pequeñas cajas y se transporta por gravedad a la bodega. La fermentación alcohólica se realiza en depósitos de acero inoxidable con levaduras indígenas, acompañada de bazuqueos diarios. Posteriormente, la fermentación maloláctica y la crianza de 20 meses tienen lugar en barricas de roble francés, mixtura de nuevas y usadas. Mariano García vinifica esta parcela por separado desde 1996. De la añada 2019 se embotellaron 9.060 botellas.

Según Robert Parker, el 2019 es un tinto potente y seductor, resultado de una cosecha cálida y seca que ofreció una madurez óptima y buena acidez. La crítica destaca su equilibrio, elegancia y frescura, describiéndolo como una copa completa y accesible. La puntuación otorgada es de 97 puntos.

The 2019 Terreus Paraje de Cueva Baja was cropped from a warm and dry year with very good ripeness and a healthy crop that kept very good acidity. It's a powerful and seductive red with power and clout but also elegance and balance. The grapes fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and day pumping-overs followed by malolactic in oak and 20 months in new and used French oak barrels. It's approachable and quite complete, keeping the balance, freshness and poise. 9,060 bottles were filled in August 2021.

Mariano García founded Bodegas Mauro in Tudela de Duero (Valladolid) in tribute to his father. He was Vega Sicilia's winemaker from 1968 to 1998, and today it is run by his sons: Alberto, in sales and management, and Eduardo, in winemaking.

Tudela de Duero was left outside the Ribera del Duero appellation when it was created, in 1982. That is why Mauro's wines are sold as Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León.

The vines, bush-trained on clay-limestone soils, are farmed organically and without herbicides, with yields of 3,000 to 5,000 kilos per hectare, and the harvest is by hand.

Mauro, the reference wine, is mostly Tempranillo with some Syrah, aged in foudres and barrels. Mauro VS, Vendimia Seleccionada, is a Tempranillo cuvée from the best plots of each vintage. Terreus comes from the Paraje de Cueva Baja, in Tudela de Duero, has been made separately since the 1996 vintage and is not made every year.

The family also has other wineries: Maurodos, in Toro, which makes San Román and was founded in 1997, and Garmón, in Ribera del Duero.
