Weingut Tesch has been rooted in Langenlonsheim on the Nahe for eleven generations; Martin Tesch, trained in microbiology, took the helm in 2001–2002 and has deliberately kept the estate outside the VDP, farming without herbicides, insecticides, or mineral fertilisers and harvesting entirely by hand — with no external certification required to prove it. The Laubenheimer Karthäuser is an Einzellage named after the Carthusian monks who worked these slopes in the Middle Ages, planted on weathered Permian red sandstone (Rotliegendes) in a southwest-facing natural amphitheatre, with vines reaching up to fifty years of age.

The 2023 is 100% Riesling trocken, fermented over roughly forty days at 12–15°C in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts, with no oak contact and no malolactic fermentation, sealed under screwcap; at 13% alcohol, 5.3 g/L residual sugar, and 6.5 g/L total acidity, it is noticeably fuller and riper than the drought-affected 2022, which came in at just 11.5% without chaptalization. The Rotliegendes sandstone asserts itself clearly in the glass — pronounced smokiness, grapefruit, and wild herbs, with a spicy, mineral edge that sets it apart from the creamier, more citrus-driven character of the loess-based Königsschild — a profile confirmed by scores of 97 points from James Suckling, 95 points from the Wine Advocate, 17/20 from Jancis Robinson, and 92+/A from The Fine Wine Review.
