Maison Rijckaert, AOP Côtes du Jura. Les Sarres lieu-dit. Blue-grey marl and limestone soils. Savagnin vinified in the ouillé style: barrels topped up regularly to prevent flor development. 100% Savagnin.

Fermented with indigenous yeasts in old oak barrels. Minimum 18 months ageing on lees with regular topping.

Este vino es elaborado con la uva Savagnin en su totalidad. Los viñedos se encuentran sobre suelos calcáreos y margas grises. La vinificación se realiza por parcela, utilizando levaduras autóctonas para la fermentación, que tiene lugar en barricas de roble. El vino pasa luego 24 meses de crianza en barricas viejas.

Jean Rijckaert is Belgian and came to wine from the other side of the counter: he spent much of the 1990s as technical director of Verget, the Mâconnais négociant house. In 1998 he set up on his own.

The estate is split across two regions. Four hectares in the Mâconnais, around the village of Viré, and five in Arbois, in the Jura. They are two areas with different varieties, different rules and different weather, and both have to be worked at once.

In 2013, having no heir, Jean began handing management to Florent Rouve, who had trained under him. Rouve now runs the vineyard and the cellar in both places.

In the Mâconnais they work chardonnay, pinot noir and aligoté; in the Jura, chardonnay, savagnin and poulsard. The farming is organic.
