El Vino Pródigo, DOCa Rioja Alta. Vineyards over 40 years old in the Rioja Alta zone at 500 metres altitude. 100% Tempranillo.
Destemmed and crushed grapes. Fermented 16 days in stainless steel at controlled temperature 24–26 ºC with a subsequent 2-day maceration. Aged in mixed-oak barrels.
In 2011, Pedro Peciña Gil decided, together with his wife María Ruiz, to start his own project in Rioja after years working for other houses. He is the son of Pedro Peciña, the founder of Hermanos Peciña. The first wine came out in 2014, and the winery now makes three: La Viña de la Merce, Placeres Sensoriales and Prodigus Venit.
La Viña de la Merce is an old-vine Tempranillo from Rioja Alta, with 16 days of fermentation in stainless steel and ageing in mixed oak barrels. Placeres Sensoriales revives carbonic maceration of Tempranillo. Prodigus Venit comes from 80-year-old vines at 550 metres in San Vicente de la Sonsierra: 3,860 bottles, fermented in concrete and aged 9 months in new American and French oak.
La Viña de la Merce is named after Pedro's mother, who died when he was a child. Prodigus Venit is dedicated to those who gave him a push and believed in the Pródigo wine.
