Domaine de Chevalier

The name does not come from any particular knight: it comes from Chivaley, the Gascon form of chevalier, by which the place was historically known.

It lies in the heart of Pessac-Léognan and is among the crus classés of the 1953 and 1959 Graves classification, in both red and white. Being classified in both colours is not the usual case.

The Bernard family bought it in 1983. Olivier Bernard took charge then, at twenty-three, and the estate had eighteen hectares of vines. In 1985 they bought plots from neighbours and the vineyard almost doubled.

Today there are sixty-seven hectares: sixty of red and seven of white.

Olivier Bernard is also one of the four buyers who in 2006 acquired Château Guiraud, in Sauternes.
