Tenuta Cucco, Barolo DOCG Riserva, Piedmont. 1.5 hectares. Vigna Cucco in Cerrati, Serralunga d'Alba, at 380–420 metres altitude with south and south-east exposure. Shallow calcareous clay soils. 100% Nebbiolo.

Destemmed and pressed. Fermentation in 50-hl stainless steel tanks for 10 days at 26°C. Submerged-cap maceration for 30 days at 22°C. Malolactic fermentation. Aged 36 months in French oak barrels. Bottle-aged for a minimum of two years before release.

Este vino proviene de un viñedo ubicado en Cerrati, Serralunga d'Alba, Italia. Las uvas utilizadas son Nebbiolo, cosechadas a una altura entre 380 y 420 metros sobre el nivel del mar, con exposición sur y sureste. El suelo es calcáreo y arcilloso, poco profundo. La vendimia se realiza manualmente, despalillando las uvas que luego se prensan en depósitos de acero inoxidable de 50 hl para una fermentación alcohólica durante 10 días a 26 °C con maceración en sombrero sumergido por 30 días a 22 °C. Posteriormente, el vino se envejece en barricas de roble francés durante 36 meses y luego se embotella, donde sigue madurando al menos dos años.

Es un vino potente con aromas complejos que incluyen frutas rojas maduras como arándanos y ciruelas negras, acompañados de notas de regaliz, especias y tierra volcánica. En boca es elegante y estructurado, con taninos finos y una acidez equilibrada que aporta frescura.

Intense notes of plum, cherry jam and spices make up its nose and also move to a relatively powerful palate, with a still very firm tannin, and to its long finish. With a lot of sapid strength and potential. It still needs some time to settle and achieve greater smoothness, which it will undoubtedly achieve. Recommended consumption: from 2023.

The vineyard was famous before the winery existed. Grapes from Vigna Cucco were fought over by local growers to blend into some of Serralunga's most respected Barolos, long before there was a label of its own. "Cucco" means hilltop in Piedmontese dialect, and it names the highest, oldest part of the vineyard, inside the Cerrati cru.

The winery arrived in 1966, when the Cappellano family sold the estate to the Stroppiana, who built the first cellar; the first Barolo Serralunga d'Alba came out in 1967. The rest of the range appeared slowly: Vigna Cucco in 1986, Cerrati in 1996 and Bricco Voghera only since 2017.

In January 2015 the property passed to the Rossi Cairo family, who for more than twenty years have run La Raia, in Novi Ligure, organically and biodynamically. They brought that way of working with them: in November 2018 Tenuta Cucco completed a three-year conversion and was certified organic. The oenologist is Clara Milani, who also looks after La Raia.

There are two crus, Cerrati and Bricco Voghera, both on the eastern slope of Serralunga's long crest, between 250 and 400 metres, on limestone-rich soils veined with sand. Picking is done by hand into crates, parcel by parcel, and production is around 70,000 bottles a year.
