Château La Caussade, managed by the Armand family across eight generations and by Angélique Armand since 2009, has been producing Sainte-Croix-du-Mont from its six-hectare estate since at least the late nineteenth century, earning gold medals at the Universal Exhibitions of Bordeaux in 1895 and Paris in 1900; the domaine holds HVE certification and is a member of Vignerons Indépendants. Sainte-Croix-du-Mont sits on the right bank of the Garonne directly opposite Sauternes and Barsac, sharing the same grape varieties and botrytis-dependent winemaking: morning mists from the river Ciron encourage Botrytis cinerea, while afternoon sun concentrates the grapes on sun-facing slopes; beneath the vineyards lies a uniquely distinctive subsoil of fossilised oyster shells — the calcaire à astéries — that sets the appellation apart geologically, though unlike Sauternes it operates without a classified growth system.

The 2022 is produced entirely from Sémillon vines aged 45 to 50 years, grown on clay-limestone soils over that fossilised oyster shell bedrock, slowly pressed and fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks before bottling approximately two years after harvest, with 40,000 bottles produced at 13% alcohol. Deep golden in colour, the wine offers aromas of honey, beeswax, dried grape and fig, leading to an unctuous, rich palate of confited fruit with a stimulating bitter finish that provides notable balance; it is rated two stars — vin remarquable — in the Guide Hachette des Vins 2025, and is best approached from 2026, with a drinking window extending to 2034.
