Les Vergelesses — not to be confused with the more elevated Île des Vergelesses — is the lower-slope premier cru of Pernand-Vergelesses, sitting east-facing at the foot of the Corton hill at around 250–300 metres altitude. Its clay-limestone soils lend the wine a rounder, more textural character than its uphill neighbour. Domaine Chanson, founded in Beaune in 1750, farms 5.3 hectares here under HVE certification, having eliminated herbicides across their Côte de Beaune holdings since 2015. 100% Pinot Noir.

Hand-harvested in early September 2017, vinified with 100% whole clusters through a cold soak followed by roughly two weeks of maceration. Malolactic fermentation in barrel on fine lees without bâtonnage, aged in oak — moderate new wood — for 14 to 19 months.
