Domaine Chanson

The house was founded by Simon Verry in Beaune in 1750 and is one of the five great négociant houses of the Côte d'Or.

Its cellar was not built for wine. It is a fifteenth-century bastion, the largest of the six that formed the city wall of Beaune. Chanson first rented it and bought it in 1794 to age its wines there.

That it works as a cellar is no accident: the walls are ten metres thick, and that mass holds a steady temperature on its own, with no climate control. They have been making and ageing wine inside for more than two centuries.

In 1999 the house passed into the hands of Bollinger.

In vineyard it holds 25.3 hectares of Beaune premier cru concentrated in just nine crus, which makes it one of the larger owners of premier cru in the commune. Among them, 3.80 hectares of the Clos des Fèves, planted to red alone.
