Château Gigognan stands on the site of a centuries-old monastery in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where vines exceed 100 years of age. The Clos du Roi parcel occupies a large, cohesive block in the appellation's southern and driest sector, where soils are dominated by galets roulés — large, heat-retaining rounded quartzite stones. Certified organic since 2009. Consulting winemaker: Philippe Cambie since 2012.

A blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre. Aged in a combination of stainless steel and seasoned old barrels with no new oak.

Este vino proviene de la región del Ródano en Francia. La bodega utiliza viñedos certificados ecológicos desde 2010 con una superficie total de 30 hectáreas. Está compuesto por un blend de 60% Garnacha, 30% Syrah y 10% Monastrell. El vino se cría durante 70% en tanques de cemento y el resto (30%) en barricas de roble francés de un año.

Even before its release on the market, this Châteauneuf du Pape 2016, which combines Grenache (60%), Syrah (30%) and Mourvèdre (10%), and which had a mixed aging in steel and oak vats of more than one use, it was already showing impressive. The notes of raspberry, rhubarb and strawberry lead us to a powerful, creamy and textured palate, which becomes firm and dry on the finish.

Soft, with abundant notes of red fruits and creamy puff pastry with berry jam, as well as Mediterranean herbs and raspberry liqueur. On the palate it reveals an easy, succulent and intense tannic core, as well as great concentration and length. For immediate consumption or storage.

The name comes from a Roman legionary, Giglius, who raised a temple here. The temple was destroyed and in the fourteenth century rebuilt as a priory: it was the second residence of the Bishop of Avignon.

Through the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the estate prospered enough to be granted the title of village. That former place of worship and the land around it became a fief, and together with Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Bédarrides they formed the principality governed by the archbishops of Avignon. The three names have gone together ever since.

The modern chapter was opened by Anne and Jacques Callet, who bought the Clos du Roi and spent the 1990s restoring the château and building a proper cellar. Jacques died in July 2016 and the property was bought by Jean-François Henin in 2017.

One hundred and ten hectares of vines among hills, umbrella pines and olive trees, with wines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Signargues, Côtes-du-Rhône Villages and Côtes-du-Rhône. Clos du Roi is their benchmark Châteauneuf.
