Vinified by variety and parcel separately. 60% destemmed. Two pump-overs per day. Aged 18 months in concrete vats. Bottled without fining; lightly filtered.

El Domaine Durieu 2019 es un vino tinto de la denominación Châteauneuf-du-Pape, elaborado por la bodega homónima en la región del Ródano, Francia. Tiene parcelas en el Plateau de Farguerol.

La composición de la uva se define en un 80% de Grenache, 10% de Syrah, 5% de Mourvèdre, 3% de Cinsault y 2% de Counoise. Variedades y parcelas se vinifican por separado, con un despalillado del 60% y dos remontados diarios. La crianza se realiza durante 18 meses en cubas de hormigón. Finalmente, el vino se embotella sin clarificar y con una filtración ligera.

En cuanto a su perfil organoléptico, presenta un color granate que anticipa un estilo más clásico. En la copa ofrece notas sutiles de cuero y cereza madura. Su estructura es de cuerpo lleno, con una textura suave y casi cremosa, lo que se traduce en un final largo y exuberante. Se destaca por su excelente equilibrio y armonía, logrando un carácter de estilo tradicional sin llegar a ser rústico.

In Durieu's tank-aged 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape, a garnet hue presages a more classic style. A blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 10% other permitted varieties, it offers up gentle leather and ripe cherry notes. Old school without being rustic, it's full-bodied, supple, almost creamy, then long and lush on the finish, showing excellent balance and harmony.

The estate exists because of a wedding present. In 1976 Lucile Avril handed her son Paul Durieu a few hectares of vines so that he could start out on his own. The Avril family had been in Châteauneuf-du-Pape since the sixteenth century, and among those parcels were vines she had planted herself, some of them predating the First World War. To that Paul added what he inherited from his father, Henri, in Plan de Dieu and Côtes du Rhône.

From there he built the domaine: he bought five more hectares, put up the cellar and the winemaking facilities, and kept expanding to the present thirty-seven hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, plus another sixty-eight in Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Ventoux.

Since 2004 the house has been run by his sons, the brothers Vincent and François. And the name of the woman who started it all is still in the range: one of the cuvées is called Lucile Avril.

The vineyard is the classic of the appellation, covered in galets roulés, the rolled pebbles that store the day's heat and give it back at night.
