Lagar do Vento

Lagar do Vento is a family winery in Belesar, Chantada, on a granite hillside falling to the Miño river in the heart of Ribeira Sacra — a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2021. Two hectares of steep terraces, heroic viticulture, strictly hand-harvested: mechanisation is impossible here, and every gesture in the vineyard is a deliberate choice.

The winery is the only member in Galicia of the Spanish Regenerative Viticulture Association and a member of the global Regenerative Viticulture Foundation. Their philosophy goes beyond preservation: they actively seek to regenerate the soil as a carbon sink and help reverse climate damage. Instead of pesticides, they cultivate communities of native insects and microorganisms; Atlantic gorse grows alongside Mediterranean orange, olive and fig trees, a biodiversity that is their main defence against vine disease.

The varieties are those of Ribeira Sacra: mencía for the reds — led by Do Peizas, voted best red wine of the appellation — and godello, treixadura and loureira for the whites. Limited production of four thousand bottles a year.
