Domaine de la Loue
Catherine Hannoun was a film producer. She came to know the Jura while working on Mondovino, Jonathan Nossiter's documentary about the standardisation of wine in the global market, and the region stayed with her.
In 2008 she moved there. She worked alongside Emmanuel Houillon, of Overnoy-Houillon, and in 2009 bought her own estate.
Three point two hectares, certified organic, spread around Marnoz and Arbois, with the cellar in Port-Lesney. That is a very small area even for the Jura, which is itself a tiny region.
She farms biodynamically, harvests by hand, ferments with indigenous yeast, uses sulphur to a minimum and neither fines nor filters.
The irony is worth noting: a film about how wine becomes homogenised ended up sending one of its own crew to work three hectares by hand at the opposite end of the system.
