Dominio de Atauta
We let you know when a new wine arrives or drops in price.
The Atauta valley holds almost 600 plots of tinto fino that phylloxera never reached, more than a century old, and the winery works with them.
Miguel Sánchez, a wine merchant born in Soria, founded it in 1999. It sits seven kilometres south of San Esteban de Gormaz, almost at the eastern edge of Ribera del Duero, in a valley with more than five centuries of vines.
In the late 2000s it was bought by the Avante Selecta group, today Terra Selecta, which also owns Viñas del Cénit.
This wine comes from 25 terroirs spread between the valley floor and the plateau, from 940 to 1,010 metres. The soils range from calcareous sands with pebbles to sandy loam and clay, all over limestone bedrock that appears between 0.7 and 2 metres down.
It is made terroir by terroir in wooden vats and concrete tanks, choosing the vessel to suit each one, and ages sixteen months in French oak barrels.
