Flequi Berruti
We let you know when a new wine arrives or drops in price.
The wine was going to be called «mumáa», which is how you say mothers in the speech of Jerez, and it is dedicated to them: «to some great fighters, our mumáa». Legal issues made that name impossible to register, so it ended up as Le Fleq, but the dedication stands.
Flequi Berruti was born in Jerez and made his career in Madrid, in wine: he worked at La Tintorería Vinoteca and at Alma Vinos Únicos. He has made wine in the Montes de Toledo, in Ribera del Duero and in Cebreros, and with this small project he has come back to his own ground.
The wine is born in Jerez and raised in La Isla: the fruit comes from the Viña La Zarzuela, in the Añina pago, and the ageing is done in San Fernando, in the Bay of Cádiz.
These are thirty-year-old vines pruned in the traditional Jerez way, farmed organically, with a cap of two kilos of fruit per vine. The wine is Palomino Fino with small amounts of Perruno, Cañocazo, Mantuo and Moscatel, varieties that were once common in Jerez and are barely seen today.
It ferments and ages ten months in new 500-litre French oak barrels from the central forests, with some veil of flor, and is barely filtered.
