El Urban 2023 es un vino blanco elaborado por la bodega Nik Weis · St. Urbans-Hof, ubicada en el municipio de Leiwen, Mosel (Alemania). La casa, fundada en 1947 y dirigida desde 1997 por Nik Weis, forma parte del VDP desde 2000. Este vino es una cuvée négociant compuesta exclusivamente por uva Riesling, procedente específicamente de la localidad de Mehring, donde la vid crece sobre suelos de pizarra azul.

La elaboración de este vino sigue un proceso específico para realzar sus características: incluye una breve maceración pelicular destinada a potenciar el perfil aromático de la uva. La fermentación se lleva a cabo íntegramente en acero inoxidable, lo que garantiza la frescura y pureza del carácter varietal. El resultado es una copa ligeramente seca con un nivel de graduación alcohólica del 10,5% vol.

Se trata de una propuesta joven y directa, que refleja el estilo del Mosela. La combinación de la uva Riesling con el suelo de pizarra azul de Mehring, junto con una crianza mínima en acero, define su perfil de frescura inmediata y carácter aromático definido.

The estate was founded in 1947 by Nicolaus Weis, who named it after Saint Urban, the patron saint of winegrowers. But he founded two things at once: alongside the winery he set up a vine nursery, one of the first private ones in Germany, which to this day supplies Riesling plants to growers on the Mosel and around the world. This is a house that, as well as making wine, propagates the variety.

His son Hermann took over in the 1960s and in the early 1970s did something unusual for a Mosel grower: he went to Canada and planted a large area of Riesling there which he called St. Urban Vineyard. That eventually became the Vineland Estates winery. Today the house is run by Nik Weis, the third generation.

There are some forty-five hectares spread along about sixty kilometres of the Mosel and Saar rivers, with parcels in Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, Leiwener Laurentiuslay, Mehringer Layet, Schodener Saarfeilser Marienberg and Ockfener Bockstein.
