Maison Patriarche, founded in Beaune in 1780, is one of Burgundy's oldest négociant houses, operating from a 17th-century former convent whose five kilometres of vaulted cellars hold one of the region's most storied collections. Savigny-lès-Beaune occupies the Rhoin valley between the Corton hill and the city of Beaune, its two opposing slopes — one south-facing for lighter, more fragrant wines, the other north-facing for firmer, more structured ones — resting on Bathonian limestone with reddish ferruginous clay. The appellation sits comfortably between Beaune and Pommard in weight: medium-bodied and discreetly tannic, with characteristic notes of cherry, raspberry, blackcurrant and violet.

The 2017 vintage in the Côte de Beaune opened with April frosts that hit low-lying Bourgogne-level vineyards hardest, while the mid-slope village sites of Savigny were largely spared; the remainder of the season was warm and dry, yielding a healthy, botrytis-free harvest. The result is a clean, fruit-forward red built around wild strawberry and bright red fruit, with the fresh, approachable character the appellation is known for — a well-priced introduction to village-level Burgundy at a confident stage of its development.
