Château de la Charrière is the estate of Yves Girardin, tenth generation of a winemaking family rooted in Santenay, who reclaimed the domaine in 2003; his son Benoît has directed winemaking since his first harvest in 2011. The Beauregard premier cru sits at the northern limit of the climat, barely 500 metres from the Chassagne-Montrachet boundary, on a southeast-facing slope at 260 to 330 metres altitude, where shallow clay-limestone topsoil over Jurassic bedrock is the defining feature of the terroir — and the key driver of the mineral tension that runs through this wine. White Chardonnay from Beauregard is genuinely rare: the climat is overwhelmingly planted to Pinot Noir, and only a handful of producers — Roger Belland, Château de la Crée, and Château de la Charrière among them — work it as blanc.

The Chardonnay is whole-cluster pressed and put through full malolactic fermentation, then aged in barrel with restrained use of new oak and extended fine-lees contact that adds textural weight and complexity without softening the wine's inherent freshness. The resulting style is precise and mineral, offering white peach, ripe pear, Meyer lemon, and honeysuckle alongside a persistent fine mineral thread, with a long, taut finish that favours tension over richness — a quality that is characteristic of serious Santenay blanc and outstanding at this price.
