L'Enclòs de Peralba
We let you know when a new wine arrives or drops in price.
L'Enclòs de Peralba is the project of cousins Leo and Roc Gramona, of the Penedès sparkling-wine family. They joined the family winery on one condition: that they could make their own wines. They started in 2017; the 2017 and 2018 vintages were made at Gramona and later ones in their own cellar.
Enclòs is Catalan for clos, and Peralba refers to the white rocks of the area's higher ground. The idea is to go back to how the land was planted before phylloxera, with local varieties (Xarel·lo, white and red Garnacha, Malvasia de Sitges) and single-plot wines of about two thousand bottles each. Part of every plot goes into the base wine, Vi Fi de Masia.
Leo Gramona believes Malvasia de Sitges, once grown on the Sitges coast for sweet wines and nearly lost, will be "the Riesling of the region".
The Pét-Nat is Malvasia de Sitges from a single 0.72-hectare plot at 266 metres, on clay. Direct pressing at 60% extraction, cold settling and a spontaneous fermentation that finishes in the bottle, with no disgorging.
