Tomás Postigo
We let you know when a new wine arrives or drops in price.
Tomás Postigo is one of the veteran winemakers of Ribera del Duero. He started at Protos and in 1988 José María Ruiz hired him as technical director of the newly founded Pago de Carraovejas, where he made the wines until 2008.
With the 2009 vintage he set up on his own, in Peñafiel. His vineyards sit between 750 and 1,000 metres, on limestone and sandy-loam soils with pebbles, farmed without herbicides and with organic treatments; part of the fruit is bought from trusted growers.
3er Año takes its name from its release three years after the harvest, as Vega Sicilia and the old Rioja houses used to do. It is Tinto Fino with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec, in proportions that change with the vintage.
Each plot is made separately: destemmed, uncrushed fruit that drops by gravity into steel tanks. It ages twelve months in French oak, also kept apart by plot and barrel type, and the final blend brings together 56 different wines.
