Domaine George
We let you know when a new wine arrives or drops in price.
Les Beauregards was the Germans' firing range during the Second World War. Today it is their Premier Cru.
David George's grandfather arrived in Courgis during that war, as a prisoner, and stayed: in the 1940s he began making wine.
His son Michel bottled under contract with the cooperative until he went independent in 1997. Today Michel works alongside his sons David and Jonathan.
Les Beauregards is a Premier Cru climat on the left bank of the river Serein, south-facing, with shallow Kimmeridgian soils — stony, well-drained clay-marl — on a slope steep enough that no tractor can work it and everything is done by hand. Michel put the parcel together by buying it from five separate owners between 1988 and 1989, and replanted it from scratch.
The wine is made entirely in stainless steel, with no oak contact at any stage, using indigenous yeasts and ageing on the lees. It is bottled unfiltered.
