VDI
We let you know when a new wine arrives or drops in price.
The vines are ungrafted: they were never grafted, they survived phylloxera and they are still there, bush-trained and over a hundred years old.
The project belongs to Juan Manuel Gallego García and began in 2019 in Gumiel de Izán, in Burgos. The way he puts it is «wine from the grower, not from the winemaker».
Gumiel de Izán is one of the areas with the most old vineyard in the whole of Ribera del Duero: more than ninety plots of old vines, some of them a century old, bush-trained on sand, clay and limestone at 900 metres. The selection there is made vine by vine and row by row.
VDI is 100% tinto fino from those plots, at 900 metres, on limestone and sandy soils. It is picked by hand with selection plot by plot.
It macerates twenty-five days and ages fourteen months in French and American oak. In the cellar, minimal intervention.
