Domaines Lupier
We let you know when a new wine arrives or drops in price.
The winery came out of a meeting at work. In 2000 the oenologist Enrique Basarte and the economist Elisa Úcar crossed paths at Chivite, and from there came the idea of saving Navarra's old Garnacha. In 2008 they set up Domaines Lupier in the villages where that Garnacha had held on: San Martín de Unx and Olite.
There are seventeen unirrigated hectares, spread across some thirty small plots farmed and vinified separately — between twenty and twenty-one different vinifications — with vines going back as far as 1903.
Raúl Pérez came into the blending in 2018 and in 2022 he bought the property: that was his first vintage as owner. The wines are now labelled Domaines Lupier de Raúl Pérez.
El Terroir comes from twelve plots farmed biodynamically, averaging seventy-five years old, at around five hundred metres. It ferments with indigenous yeasts and ages eleven to thirteen months, depending on the plot, in 500-litre French oak barrels.
The 2016 vintage predates Raúl Pérez's arrival: it was made by Basarte and Úcar.
