Domaine Sirugue
We let you know when a new wine arrives or drops in price.
The house did not start out called Sirugue. The genealogy begins in 1688 at the Pansiot farm, in Couchey, at the northern end of the Côte de Nuits, with crops and livestock.
The Second World War left the family without three children and without their father, Albert Pansiot. Marie and her daughter Marie-Thérèse kept the farm going between the two of them. In 1947 Marie-Thérèse married Marcel Sirugue, a farmer from Perrigny-lès-Dijon whose land had been expropriated to build the railway. He revived the vines and the cereal, and that is how the surname now on the label came into the house.
In 1976, Maurice joined forces with his parents and they set up the GAEC Sirugue père et fils; in 1983 Jean-Marie came in. Today their sons run it, the cousins Guillaume and Julien Sirugue, the fourth generation.
There are 13 hectares spread across the northernmost villages of the Côte de Nuits: Marsannay-la-Côte, Couchey, Fixin, Brochon and Gevrey-Chambertin. They work Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Aligoté, and bottle red, white and rosé. Farming is lutte raisonnée.
In Fixin the vines sit on the appellation's clay-limestone soils. With the Pinot Noir they destem only in part and use whole clusters, and ageing is in oak barrel.
