Sierra Cantabria
We let you know when a new wine arrives or drops in price.
Guillermo Eguren founded Sierra Cantabria in 1957 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, between the Ebro and the mountain range that gives it its name. The family had been working vines since 1870, with Amancio Eguren, and today there are five generations.
The house has two ranges with different criteria: Sierra Cantabria, with the classic crianza, reserva and gran reserva, and Viñedos Sierra Cantabria, started in 1996, where every wine comes from a single vineyard.
The vineyards lie in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Labastida and Laguardia, on clay-limestone soils with rounded pebbles and fractured bedrock. Marcos Eguren signs the wines.
Finca El Bosque is 1.482 hectares of Tempranillo planted in 1973 in San Vicente de la Sonsierra. The grapes are destemmed by hand, berry by berry, ferment in small 10-hectolitre oak vats with traditional foot-treading, go through malolactic fermentation in new barrels and age 18 months in new French and Central European oak.
It is one of the family's six projects in Rioja, Toro and Castilla, alongside Viñedos Sierra Cantabria, Viñedos de Páganos, Señorío de San Vicente, Teso la Monja and Dominio de Eguren.
