Antoine Sanzay

We let you know when a new wine arrives or drops in price.

Antoine Sanzay is the seventh generation of his family to farm vines in Varrains, within Saumur-Champigny. For all that time the fruit went to the village cooperative.

In 1999 he decided to make the wine himself. Getting out was not immediate: the cooperative contracts fell due one by one, and until 2013 he could vinify only around 40% of his own vines. Fourteen years to reach the point of making wine from all the fruit of land that was already his.

He began with four hectares and works eleven today, farmed organically, among them four in the Les Poyeux lieu-dit.

His La Paterne comes from four hectares spread across Varrains, Chacé and Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg, planted in 1985 at around eighty metres.

The house variety is cabernet franc.
