Domaine Christophe Mittnacht

We let you know when a new wine arrives or drops in price.

The family estate was founded in 1958, in Hunawihr, and is run today by Christophe and Yuka Mittnacht.

It gained biodynamic certification in 1999, when almost nobody in Alsace held it: it was among the very first in the whole region. Certification is by Ecocert and Demeter.

On 1 August 2019 the house was divided in two between the two cousins who shared it, each keeping half the vineyard. Christophe's half became Domaine Christophe Mittnacht, Terres d'étoiles.

Eleven hectares spread across Hunawihr, Ribeauvillé and Mittelwihr, with parcels in the Rosacker and Osterberg grands crus.

Their Gyotaku cuvée was originally made for the Japanese market and ended up the best-selling wine of the house. It blends five varieties — 45% pinot blanc, 23% pinot gris, 16% gewurztraminer, 8% riesling and 8% muscat — which is uncommon in a region where the norm is to bottle each variety on its own. Gyotaku is, in Japanese, the technique of printing the outline of a fish in ink.
