Rijckaert

Jean Rijckaert is Belgian and came to wine from the other side of the counter: he spent much of the 1990s as technical director of Verget, the Mâconnais négociant house. In 1998 he set up on his own.

The estate is split across two regions. Four hectares in the Mâconnais, around the village of Viré, and five in Arbois, in the Jura. They are two areas with different varieties, different rules and different weather, and both have to be worked at once.

In 2013, having no heir, Jean began handing management to Florent Rouve, who had trained under him. Rouve now runs the vineyard and the cellar in both places.

In the Mâconnais they work chardonnay, pinot noir and aligoté; in the Jura, chardonnay, savagnin and poulsard. The farming is organic.
